Ritornano i Babyshambles. È “Shotter’s Nation” il secondo album della band capitanata da Pete Doherty. Dopo “The Blinding EP” uscito nel gennaio scorso arriva il nuovo lavoro in studio, il primo per EMI.

“Shotter’s Nation” é stato registrato presso gli Olympic Studios di Londra con la sapiente direzione del produttore Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur). La sua lavorazione è durata appena poche settimane durante le quali i Babyshambles e Pete Doherty hanno “fatto le cose come andavano fatte a differenza delle registrazioni di “Down In Albion”“

Anche l’ex fidanzata di Doherty Kate Moss ha partecipato alla stesura di “Shotter’s Nation”. Sua infatti buona parte del testo di “You Talk”. Come racconta lo stesso Doherty: ”Ho scritto questa canzone insieme a Kate, pensando di far colpo su di lei, ma lei l’ha praticamente riscritta ed è finita dritta nell’album”.

Nell’album troviamo diverse influenze, dai Kinks al punk, dai Soul 2 Soul ai Blondie ma anche Stone Roses e il sound Motown e quello indie 80s.
In “Shotter’s Nation” i testi rivelano le molte sfaccettature della personalità di Peter Doherty: poeta di strada, incurabile romantico, autore impegnato e acuto commentatore della società inglese.

Shotter’s Nation è il secondo album dei Babyshambles, che nascono nel 2003 per volere di Pete Doherty, inizialmente come un progetto senza una line-up definita, fino all’estate del 2004 quando a seguito dello scioglimento dei Libertines diventano una band a tutti gli effetti, e pubblicano il primo album “Down In Albion”.

I brani di “Shotter’s Nation” prima di finire nell’album sono stati eseguiti dal vivo in varie occasioni e alcune versioni demo sono state fatte circolare attraverso la rete in modo gratuito. Di queste versioni, amate dai fan, Pete afferma: “Anche se le tracce hanno lo stesso titolo non credo che abbiate sentito qualcosa che suoni come nell’album”.

Tra queste tracce il primo singolo “Delivery”, un brano spensierato che racconta di come evadere dalla vita di tutti i giorni. In pieno stile Babyshambles.

Scritto da Pete insieme alla band, “Shotter’s Nation” vede il gruppo focalizzarsi sulla musica e dimostrare di essere una delle migliori band in circolazione, presentandoci inoltre Doherty come uno dei migliori talenti della sua generazione.
